How Hidden Birth and Childhood Traumas Can Rock Foundations

Health challenges are tough. Health challenges that our children experience or are experiencing are even tougher. They are stressful and overwhelming; You need to go to work but can’t because your child is sick… again. Your kiddo pulled out of a sports carnival because the thought of being amongst a crowd of peers was just too much. From nothing to explosions, bursts of anger or frustration that just come out of nowhere. It can seem never ending.

And, what about your own health challenges; You reluctantly cancel a lunch date with a friend because of exhaustion. Gym workouts are put on the back burner due to inflammation. You feel like days at work are never-ending with difficulty concentrating and fatigue. Rollercoaster emotions make daily relationships difficult… or things are just hazy for no real reason and brain fog makes the little things hard. Very hard.

So why are these types of problems increasing in intensity and frequency AND beginning at younger and younger ages?

Strong or Rocky Foundations?

Foundations matter. You see the thing is, we all need strong foundations. Houses, businesses, families and bodies. When our foundations are rocked then our infrastructure must beg, borrow and steal from other places and our body is weakened and left with inferior product to work with and less in the tank.

Our foundation is our central nervous system. Our central nervous system controls and coordinates every single cell, tissue and organ in our bodies. And this coordination, starts from the very beginning of life.

When we are developing in the womb, the first cells to differentiate are the primitive nervous system cells. From this very early stage, every other cell is orchestrated from this MASTER CONTROL SYSTEM. AND because it is such an important system, this master system is protected by bone. Our skull protects our brain, and our spinal bones protect our spinal cord. What if something or a few somethings rock this foundation? How do ours or our children’s foundations become so messed up?

During development

Prenatal stress, trauma and tension can wind up the developing nervous system in utero. Whether it be medications the pregnant mum is on, relationship stress, physical stressors and so on. During this period, the developing nervous system is increasingly vulnerable and susceptible to all kinds of stress.

During Labour

From 2015- 2022 in Australia the rate and amount of birth intervention and trauma has progressively increased. The rate of induced labor has risen. 43% of first-time mothers had an induced labor. The use of epidurals rose from 25.7% in 2015 to 36.2% in 2021 for all women. C section rates have doubled in Australia over the past 3 decades. In 2021, 37.8% of births were caesarean sections.  All these Birth traumas can cause physical trauma to the brain stem, phrenic and vagus nerve.

During Growth

Have you ever watched a kid learning how to walk, in case you haven’t, well, they fall… a lot. Combine that with sporting injuries, medications, chairs being pulled out on them, falls off bikes, concussions, wrestling matches with siblings, coping with divorce or changes in family dynamics, it’s a wonder any of us are still able to smile. All these seemingly little things add up over time to become big problems. When these stressors continue to pile up early in a child’s life, it can dramatically affect their developing nervous system.

During Adulthood

Motor vehicle collisions, staring at a computer or device, hours of driving or sitting, relationship stress, job concerns, parenting struggles, it’s certainly difficult for our nervous system to thrive with these types of day-to-day pressures it is under.

These cumulative stressors that begin early in life can dramatically impact a child’s developing nervous system and then, if left uncorrected continue to cause nervous system dysregulation in teens and adults robbing them of joy and health.

How to know if you have Nervous System Dysregulation?

Neuro Pulse, Neuro Thermal and Neuro core

The exciting news is that we can now measure how your nervous system is regulating. An infant, a pregnant mum, a teenager or an adult we can objectively assess all. We can measure and know with certainty how much your nervous system is wound up, if it’s working too hard, if it’s running on fumes or if it’s collapsing.

We should have a healthy balance in all areas of our nervous system, especially the autonomic nervous system. There should be balance between the accelerator pedal (the sympathetic nervous system) and our brake pedal (the parasympathetic nervous system).

Unfortunately, when traumas such as those mentioned above occur and are left undetected and uncorrected, this area of our nervous system becomes out of balance. Typically, it’s the accelerator pedal (the sympathetics) that remains STUCK ON which leads to a cascade of health challenges like growing pains, poor concentration, behaviour issues, gut problems, brain fog, anxiety clumsiness and the list goes on. We can now measure the balance of the sympathetics and the parasympathetics with our state-of-the art INSIGHT scanning technology. We can find out exactly where you or your children are stuck, lacking or over worked.
